erasing parts of circle

Trying to erase certain sections of circle.
When I select the object small black dots ring the line.
left clicking trying to select, sometimes it takes sometimes it doesn't

What am I doing wrong?

Mark,

There are at least two ways, that I know of, to get partial circles or arcs.

The first way is to click the Circle tab, select the "Draw a circle arc using the center" tool and then choose the appropriate location for the circle center, click, expand to desired radius, click, and then expand the radius arc to the desired length.

The second way is to draw your circle and then click the edit tab, then select the "Split a line, circle, arc, ellipse, elliptical arc (CTRL+T)" tool, select the circle, select the point on the circle where you want the circle split in half, delete one half of the circle, and then extend or shorten either end of the remaining circle arc to the position desired.

If anyone knows a better way please jump in.
